EDUCATION ON THE WATER

Set sail aboard AMM’s floating classroom, the historic skipjack, Wilma Lee, to dredge for oysters and experience what life was like living on the water in the 1800s. Test water quality above an oyster reef and see what biodiversity lives below in this immersive, STEM-based program!

Students will be actively engaged in STEM concepts, all while enjoying the beautiful Chesapeake Bay setting. Our Wilma Lee Education Program is available for school groups, scout troops, Homeschool Co-ops, and other youth groups (5th grade and older). Cost is $18/Participant, $500 minimum, for up to 2 hours (35 person max).

Activities onboard include:

  • Water quality testing and data analysis
  • Dredging for live oysters 
  • Identifying animals that live on an oyster reef
  • Raising the main sail
  • Reading nautical charts and maps
  • Exploring the cabins and deck of the historic skipjack
  • Documenting observations on the water and nearby shorelines
It would be impossible to overstate what an awesome educational and FUN experience it was. The actual experience of being on a historic skipjack in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay made for a lifetime memory! You all ROCK!!!
