About the Museum
The Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park (AMM) is a vital community resource that educates youth and adults about the maritime heritage of Annapolis and the ecology of Chesapeake Bay. With two campuses located on Back Creek, AMM delivers immersive, hands-on programs that foster environmental literacy, stewardship, and a connection to the Bay.
Position Overview
The Lead Educator is a key member of the AMM Education Team and reports to the Education Director. This position ensures the delivery of engaging, high-quality environmental education programs and plays a leading role in program instruction, educator training, volunteer training and animal care. We’re seeking an experienced educator—especially someone with a strong background in PreK–5 education—who brings energy, creativity, and a passion for teaching. The ideal candidate is comfortable around water, adaptable to outdoor environments, and available for occasional weekend and evening programming. This position is ideal for an experienced early childhood or elementary educator who is eager to lead hands-on outdoor instruction and mentor others
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and facilitate experiential PreK–5 environmental education programs.
- Greet and introduce groups to the Museum.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, engaging, and joyful learning environment for young learners
- Manage setup, instruction, and cleanup for school programs and field trips
- Travel to local area schools to conduct offsite outreach and school programs
- Deliver programs aligned with Maryland environmental literacy standards
- Manage student behavior with kindness, consistency, and clear expectations
- Train educators and volunteers
- Provide feedback and guidance to ensure instructional quality and consistency
- Maintain aquariums and oyster spat
Preferred Qualifications
This position is ideal for educators with a strong foundation in classroom teaching who are seeking to expand into outdoor and experiential learning. Preferred qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Environmental Science, or a related field
- Minimum 3 years of teaching experience with PreK–5 students
- Strong instructional skills and ability to engage a wide range of learners
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Comfort working on or around boats and water-based environments
- Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred
- Willingness to work occasional weekends and irregular hours as needed
- Physical ability to lead outdoor activities in varying weather conditions
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
- Must pass a background check

POSITION SUMMARY
The Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park (AMM) is seeking a proactive, detail-oriented, and mission-driven Museum Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day visitor experience, volunteer engagement, and operational support at our waterfront campus. This leadership position ensures the smooth and professional operation of the Museum’s front-of-house functions, including guest services, museum shop operations, volunteer program management, and general facilities coordination. The Manager plays a vital role in enhancing organizational efficiency, strengthening community engagement, and delivering an outstanding experience to all visitors, volunteers, and partners.
This is a full-time, on-site position that requires working occasional Saturdays, evenings and holidays.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Museum Operations – 60%
- Lead all aspects of daily museum operations to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for guests, staff, and volunteers.
- Supervise front desk, guest services, and museum store staff; develop training and service protocols that reflect AMM’s mission and brand.
- Oversee admission processes, ticketing systems, and visitor data reporting; implement improvements based on trends and guest feedback.
- Manage museum store operations (on-site and online), including merchandising, inventory management, sales strategy, and reporting.
- Collaborate with facilities and programs staff to support logistics for public programs, rentals, and special events.
- Coordinate building readiness and supplies, partnering with the operations and maintenance teams as needed.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for operations and guest services.
Volunteer Program Management – 40%
- Develop and implement a strategic volunteer engagement plan across departments, from education and events to guest services and admin support.
- Recruit, onboard, train, and supervise a diverse volunteer corps; foster a culture of recognition, retention, and leadership development.
- Manage volunteer captains and project leads; expand leadership capacity through mentoring and succession planning.
- Design and manage volunteer appreciation events, communications, and performance tracking systems.
- Maintain volunteer database, communication tools, and records to ensure strong internal coordination and compliance.
- Strengthen community partnerships to grow the volunteer pipeline and increase engagement with local organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of progressive experience in museum operations, nonprofit program management, or hospitality/guest services leadership.
- Proven ability to manage and lead staff and volunteers in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
- Strong organizational and operational management skills, including process development, reporting, and project oversight.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and with the public.
- Experience managing a retail operation and familiarity with POS, CRM, or inventory systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Teams; experience with volunteer management or ticketing software a plus.
- Ability to work Saturdays and occasional evenings or holidays.
- High level of initiative, flexibility, and commitment to excellence.

Job Summary
The Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park (AMM) seeks a Site Supervisor. The Site Supervisor will act as the on-site point of contact during events, offering support to clients, caterers, vendors, and guests, while ensuring the smooth operation of events at the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park (AMM).
Key Responsibilities
- Event Setup & Venue Preparation:
- Arrive early to inspect the venue and ensure it is clean, organized, and ready for the event.
- Unlock and secure doors, ensuring proper access for vendors, staff, and guests.
- Set up essential equipment and supplies such as lighting, and A/V equipment.
- Ensure that all exhibits and displays are turned off or properly managed to avoid disruption.
- Coordinate with vendors on site (caterers, AV technicians, etc.) for any special setup needs or questions.
- Ensure parking signs are placed according to venue guidelines, directing guests and vendors to appropriate parking locations.
- Client & Vendor Support During Events:
- Serve as the on-site point of contact for event clients, vendors, and guests.
- Provide timely and accurate information about the venue to vendors, clients, and guests.
- Address any issues or requests from clients or vendors in a professional, proactive manner.
- Monitor the venue for any safety hazards or issues and resolve them immediately.
- Keep the venue accessible and safe, ensuring that only authorized personnel are allowed in restricted areas.
- Coordinate the smooth operation of the event by adjusting lighting, temperature, and other venue-specific needs as necessary.
- Be visible and available to address any questions or concerns during the event.
- Maintenance of Venue Standards:
- Monitor cleanliness of bathrooms, kitchen areas, event spaces, and common areas throughout the event.
- Ensure all doors and equipment are locked or turned off at the conclusion of the event.
- Supervise cleanup activities and confirm that all rented equipment is returned, and venue space is cleared.
- Event Breakdown & Closing Procedures:
- Oversee event breakdown, ensuring vendors, caterers, and staff clear the venue in a timely manner.
- Confirm that the venue is cleaned and restored to its original state, ensuring all personal items and rentals are accounted for.
- Turn off all lighting, audio-visual equipment
- Ensure all doors are securely locked, and alarms are set as required at the end of the event.
- Return all equipment to the appropriate storage locations.
Qualifications:
- Background in event coordination, venue management, or hospitality is preferred.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to adapt quickly in dynamic situations
- Ability to lift, move, and set up event furniture and materials
- Comfortable standing, walking, and performing physical tasks for extended periods
- Professional and reliable
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Resourceful and quick-thinking under pressure
- Appropriate attire required: dress or dark pants, collared shirt, and closed-toe
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays based on event need

A volunteer board of 17 distinguished community members and a professional staff oversee the operations and long-range planning for this tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We are proud to share that our thriving cohort of nearly 250 volunteers are involved in all aspects of the Museum’s functions.
The Education Center at the Museum’s Park campus offers four core education programs, as well as field trips, family programs, afterschool programs, summer camp, and more. The Education Center serves more than 12,000 students annually.
AMM hosts numerous events and programs throughout the year (e.g., Boatyard Beach Bash, Oyster Roast & Sock Burning, Tides & Tunes Summer Concerts and September Sunsets Concert Series, Winter Lecture Series and serves as a gathering place for both civic and community functions.
