Susan Thaxton

Susan Thaxton is President and CEO of the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park. She brings a broad and accomplished background in nonprofit, corporate, and military leadership, with a career focused on mission-driven growth, community impact, and organizational excellence.

Prior to joining AMM, Susan served in executive leadership roles at The Mission Continues, a national nonprofit dedicated to empowering veterans through community service. As Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Programs Officer, she oversaw volunteer operations in more than 40 cities nationwide and led initiatives to expand the organization’s reach, effectiveness, and long-term impact.

Earlier in her career, Susan was Executive Director of Girls on the Run of the Greater Chesapeake, where she guided the organization through a period of significant growth and strengthened its operational foundation. Her experience also includes strategic consulting and production management roles at General Motors. She began her professional career in the United States Navy, where she served with distinction.

A longtime Annapolis resident, Susan is actively engaged in the local community and has served on several nonprofit boards. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Villanova University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. She lives in Annapolis with her husband, Mickey, and their two daughters.
