Facilities and Operations Manager

ABOUT AMM
The Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park is a vital cultural and environmental resource serving Anne Arundel County and the broader region. Through engaging programs, exhibits, and community events, AMM educates youth and adults about the rich maritime heritage of Annapolis and the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay. Our mission comes to life across two waterfront campuses—on Back Creek and aboard our historic skipjack, Wilma Lee—through interactive experiences that inspire stewardship and celebrate local history.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Facilities and Operations Manager is role responsible for the stewardship, maintenance, and operational readiness of the Annapolis Maritime Museum’s three distinct properties. This position ensures that AMM’s campuses are safe, well-maintained, and presented to the highest standard for the wide range of visitors, students, event guests, community members, and supporters.
The Facilities and Operations Manager brings both a hands-on approach to proactively identify and resolve maintenance needs, plan for the long-term health of AMM’s properties, and collaborate across teams to support programming, events, and community engagement.
This is a full-time, on-site position that requires working occasional Saturdays, evenings and holidays.
AMM’S PROPERTIES
The Facilities and Operations Manager is responsible for the upkeep and operations across all three AMM properties:
- Museum Campus:
AMM’s flagship waterfront property on Back Creek which houses our museum, a large tented deck, docking facilities for the historic skipjack Wilma Lee and member vessels, and the Barge House meeting space. The campus hosts popular community events, signature fundraising events, weddings and private events, school field trips, paddleboard and kayak access to Back Creek, and functions as a beloved community park. The property is also subject to periodic flooding during high tides, and requires vigilant, proactive maintenance.
- Park Campus
Located across Back Creek, the 12-acre Park Campus is home to AMM’s education programs, serving thousands of students annually, as well as being a treasured park utilized by countless members of the community. The campus includes an education building, a large event pavilion available for weddings and rentals, public walking trails, a long boardwalk with alternate docking access for the Wilma Lee, a small boat shed, and a kayak launch.
- Weems & Plath Building
Purchased by AMM in 2024, the Weems & Plath building represents an exciting future investment. The second floor currently houses AMM’s collections and some staff office space. The ground floor is leased to a commercial tenant and AMM serves as landlord responsible for building maintenance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee day-to-day facilities operations across all three AMM properties, ensuring they are functional, safe, clean, and well-presented at all times.
- Oversee routine and preventive maintenance schedules for buildings, equipment, docks, boardwalks, grounds, and infrastructure.
- Serve as primary point of contact for and manager of outside contractors, vendors, and service providers; solicit bids, manage scopes of work, and ensure quality outcomes.
- Manage the Facilities Coordinator, providing clear direction, support, and oversight.
- Develop and maintain protocols for weather preparedness, including high tide flooding mitigation, storm preparation, and post-storm recovery across all properties.
- Partner with the Facilities Advisory Committee to develop and implement short- and long-term property maintenance plans and capital improvement strategies.
- Develop and manage the facilities operating budget; track expenditures and identify cost efficiencies.
- Collaborate across the team to ensure properties are maintained and organized to be guest-ready for programming and events.
- Build positive relationships with neighboring property owners, volunteers, guests, and community partners.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in facilities management, operations management, property management, or a closely related field.
- Strong project management skills, including experience working with contractors and managing budgets.
- Keen eye for detail — ability to identify what needs to be fixed, improved, or elevated before issues escalate.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as required by events and programming.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred:
- Experience with waterfront, marina, or coastal properties.
- Experience working with historic or older buildings.
- Familiarity with flood mitigation strategies and tidal/weather preparedness.
- Experience managing staff or volunteers.
This is primarily an on-site position requiring frequent presence across all three AMM properties. Work will regularly take place outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions. Some evening and weekend availability is required. Occasional lifting and physical labor may be required.

Job Summary
The Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park (AMM) seeks a Site Supervisor. The Site Supervisor will act as the on-site point of contact during events, offering support to clients, caterers, vendors, and guests, while ensuring the smooth operation of events at the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park (AMM).
Key Responsibilities
- Event Setup & Venue Preparation:
- Arrive early to inspect the venue and ensure it is clean, organized, and ready for the event.
- Unlock and secure doors, ensuring proper access for vendors, staff, and guests.
- Set up essential equipment and supplies such as lighting, and A/V equipment.
- Ensure that all exhibits and displays are turned off or properly managed to avoid disruption.
- Coordinate with vendors on site (caterers, AV technicians, etc.) for any special setup needs or questions.
- Ensure parking signs are placed according to venue guidelines, directing guests and vendors to appropriate parking locations.
- Client & Vendor Support During Events:
- Serve as the on-site point of contact for event clients, vendors, and guests.
- Provide timely and accurate information about the venue to vendors, clients, and guests.
- Address any issues or requests from clients or vendors in a professional, proactive manner.
- Monitor the venue for any safety hazards or issues and resolve them immediately.
- Keep the venue accessible and safe, ensuring that only authorized personnel are allowed in restricted areas.
- Coordinate the smooth operation of the event by adjusting lighting, temperature, and other venue-specific needs as necessary.
- Be visible and available to address any questions or concerns during the event.
- Maintenance of Venue Standards:
- Monitor cleanliness of bathrooms, kitchen areas, event spaces, and common areas throughout the event.
- Ensure all doors and equipment are locked or turned off at the conclusion of the event.
- Supervise cleanup activities and confirm that all rented equipment is returned, and venue space is cleared.
- Event Breakdown & Closing Procedures:
- Oversee event breakdown, ensuring vendors, caterers, and staff clear the venue in a timely manner.
- Confirm that the venue is cleaned and restored to its original state, ensuring all personal items and rentals are accounted for.
- Turn off all lighting, audio-visual equipment
- Ensure all doors are securely locked, and alarms are set as required at the end of the event.
- Return all equipment to the appropriate storage locations.
Qualifications:
- Background in event coordination, venue management, or hospitality is preferred.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to adapt quickly in dynamic situations
- Ability to lift, move, and set up event furniture and materials
- Comfortable standing, walking, and performing physical tasks for extended periods
- Professional and reliable
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Resourceful and quick-thinking under pressure
- Appropriate attire required: dress or dark pants, collared shirt, and closed-toe
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays based on event need

About the Museum:
The Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park (AMM) is a major community asset serving Anne Arundel County and beyond. AMM educates youth and adults about the Annapolis area’s rich maritime heritage and the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay through programs, exhibits, and community events. We accomplish this mission through an engaging suite of hands-on programming and by bringing visitors to our two campuses on Back Creek and aboard the Museum’s historic skipjack, Wilma Lee.
A volunteer board of 17 distinguished community members and a professional staff oversee the operations and long-range planning for this tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We are proud to share that our thriving cohort of nearly 250 volunteers are involved in all aspects of the Museum’s functions.
The Education Center at the Museum’s Park campus offers four core education programs, as well as field trips, family programs, afterschool programs, summer camp, and more. The Education Center serves more than 12,000 students annually.
AMM hosts numerous events and programs throughout the year (e.g., Boatyard Beach Bash, Oyster Roast & Sock Burning, Tides & Tunes Summer Concerts and September Sunsets Concert Series, Winter Lecture Series and serves as a gathering place for both civic and community functions.
Summer 2026 – Environmental Education Internship for High School Students
Help inspire the next generation of environmental stewards by teaching and exploring with campers at the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park’s Summer Camp! Assist in delivering hands-on environmental education, facilitating outdoor experiences, and developing relationships with campers in a FUN summer camp environment, all while earning student service learning hours. Interns must be available to work at least 6 weeks over the summer, between June 22nd and August 21st, in addition to training prior to camp opening.
AMM Overview
The Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park’s mission is to educate youth and adults about the Annapolis area’s rich maritime heritage and the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay through programs, exhibits, and community events. During the summer, AMM runs a popular 9-week summer camp program for over 500 local youth and provides field trip experiences for visiting groups. Our summer programming has students exploring life around the Bay and maritime heritage through the lens of environmental science, social studies, art, and recreation.
Our summer internship program offers great experience for students interested in any of these fields of study: education, environmental studies, science, communication, or outdoor recreation. Interns will receive hands-on training and experience with the fundamentals of environmental education best practices, lesson plan creation, and program facilitation. Interns will assist in the facilitation of programs for summer camp and visiting groups.
Internship Responsibilities
•Assist with supervision and group management of up to 18 campers with a team of 2-3 counselors, including a teacher, college intern, and other volunteers
•Observe and assist fellow instructors with lessons focusing on environmental studies, ecology, art, and recreation
•Assist with set-up and clean-up from daily camp activities
•Organize and lead games, nature exploration, and “down-time” activities
•Plan and lead at least one environmental education lesson during the summer – Interns will receive training in writing objectives, adapting existing resources, and using best practices in outdoor classroom management – Interns will receive constructive feedback after their lesson
•Assist campers while kayaking – Training is provided
•Assist with aquarium and animal care
