John B. "Jack" Owens
About:
During World War II, Owens Yacht Company joined the war effort by building aircraft rescue boats from 1940 to 1943. These ships were created to rescue the crew of downed United States aircraft during World War II. They also built landing craft, vehicle, personnel (LCVP) boats during World War II. These boats could carry more than 30 soldiers onto shore in amphibious landings. Jack Owens states in his interviews that he is proud to have made some small contribution to the events at D-Day and Dwight D. Eisenhower noted that the boats were crucial to the Allied victory on the European Western Front.
