About the Object:
Sadler's Seafood House was the premier place to go for steamed crabs and shrimp. Known for being the grandfather of the community, Herbie Sadler opened his company in the 1920s and hired a diverse workforce, including eight female crab pickers. The images shown here are from an unknown edition of The Capital newspaper during the mid-20th century. These images focus on two women working to pick and process blue crabs.

Mrs. Nancy Taylor, seen in the first image is picking the meat from the body of the crab, leaving the claws for a different part of the warehouse. Mrs. Nancy Taylor could pick a crab clean in under thirty seconds.
