Jack Owens grew up sailing. He was a competitive yachtsman and won many racing trophies through the years. As children, the Owens boys and their father sailed through the Great Lakes, through the Erie Canal, and down the Chesapeake. His boating knowledge led him to write multiple books on sailing, including "Cruising Fun For the Family" and "Cruising Guide to the Chesapeake Bay."
