Annual Oyster Roast & Sock Burning

Home / Events / Annual Oyster Roast & Sock Burning

Celebrate the spring equinox and the beginning of boating season each March by burning those nasty winter socks at the Annapolis Oyster Roast & Sock Burning. In a tradition dating back to the mid-1980s, AOR 2015 GovAnnapolitans relieve themselves of the necessities of winter as the “Ode to the Equinox” is recited.

Live music is provided by the popular local band, The Eastport Oyster Boys, who entertain with a wide variety of musical styles. A shucking contest provides a chance to show your shucking prowess, and guests can purchase the People’s Choice ticket to participate in an exclusive tasting contest in which 10 local restaurants and catering companies compete to prepare their Best Oyster Dish.

For the young at heart, there will be fun activities and exhibits highlighting the area’s unique maritime heritage and the importance of the oyster to the health of the Chesapeake Bay. Of course, there will be plenty of oysters – raw and roasted — to eat, and BBQ, hotdogs, hamburgers, beer, wine and soft drinks are available for purchase.

The next Oyster Roast & Sock Burning will take place on March 24, 2018.
