Right Catch

The Right Catch program is the city’s first comprehensive sustainable seafood program that promotes local and sustainable seafood restaurants. They strive to create a collaborative connection between citizens, businesses, and the Museum by working together to increase transparency in the “Bay-to-table” process. The Museum has sought out and highlighted local restaurants that are striving to offer smart seafood choices. Visit one of our partner restaurants to support local businesses, help preserve our fish species, and eat some great food!

What is Sustainable Seafood?

Sustainable seafood comes from sources that are not over-fished or harvested in environmentally destructive ways.

The Right Catch is a partner of the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program. Using science-based, peer-reviewed methods, Seafood Watch assesses how fisheries and farmed seafood impact the environment and provides recommendations indicating which items are ‘Best Choices’, ‘Good Alternatives’, and which ones to ‘Avoid’.

It is estimated that ninety percent of the world’s fisheries are either fully exploited, over-exploited, or have collapsed entirely. Chesapeake Bay fishermen and watermen provide some of the most sustainable seafood options available. Choosing Maryland-caught seafood not only ensures freshness, but supports the local economy.
