The Annapolis Maritime Museum host its annual Winter Lecture Series Thursday evenings from mid-January through mid-March 2015. The Series will feature speakers covering eight diverse topics including maritime history, local history, science and maritime art. Engaging topic experts will provide residents and visitors an opportunity to be challenged, to question and to learn. The 2015 schedule of topics and speakers will be announced in the fall.
The Buchanan Bay Room Gallery provides a wonderful waterfront venue for local artists and art organizations to exhibit their work. The gallery offers approximately 88 linear feet of well lighted, air conditioned exhibition space for two dimensional artwork. The shows are all Maritime or Chesapeake Bay themed to complement the mission of the Museum and generally run for 6-8 weeks. Generally all displayed is for sale with partial proceeds benefitting the Museum.
Tides & Tunes Summer Concerts offers eight-weeks of popular music from rock to folk to jazz with the incomparable backdrop of the Chesapeake Bay. Concerts are free however donations are requested. Food and spirits are available. The concerts are sponsored and supported by the popular Annapolis radio station WRNR.
Celebrate the spring equinox and the beginning of boating season by burning those nasty winter socks! The annual Annapolis Oyster Roast & Sock Burning takes place at the Annapolis Maritime Museum from Noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2015. The tradition dates back to the mid 1980's and has been commemorated in verse, 'Ode to the Sock Burners' which will be recited right as the first sock is thrown on the fire.
There is live music by the Eastport Oyster Boys who entertain with a wide variety of musical styles. A shucking contest provides a chance to show your shucking prowess.
Guests can purchase the People's Choice ticket and participate in the exclusive tasting contest.
Eight local restaurants and catering companies are preparing their 'Best Oyster Dish'.
For the young and young at heart, there will be fun activities and exhibits highlighting the area's unique maritime heritage and the importance of the oyster to the health of the Chesapeake Bay. Of course, there will be plenty of oysters – raw and roasted. For a modest additional fee, BBQ, hotdogs, hamburgers, beer, wine and soft drinks are available for purchase.
10th Annual Boatyard Beach Bash, held on September 20th, 2014, is a fundraiser and an evening in paradise. This year's event has more star-power than ever with the addition of Jimmy Buffet's long-time keyboardist Michael Utley. He will be joined by Coral Reefer Doyle Grisham, John Frinzi Band and Jim Morris. This diverse collection of talented musicians will provide rare access to the Coral Reefers in an intimate setting with the incomparable backdrop of the Chesapeake Bay. The event includes a private VIP reception with musicians. In addition to the concert the ticketed event includes extensive grilled buffet cater by the Boatyard Restaurant, cocktails in a beachside setting.
